Play concerts... without destroying the planet!
Tour by bike along the Canal de Bourgogne with Jojoni

Everybody loves a summer festival and France offers thousands to choose from. Sonic Bloom is a different kind of festival. It’s an experimental sound experience that travels by bike.

The first edition of Sonic Bloom was held in June 2021 in the community gardens of Dijon. It was a sort of end of confinement party. This second edition in 2023 is designed in two stages: first as a festival on the seam between the city and the countryside. A first weekend in Dijon and in the natural spaces of the Dijon conurbation, dedicated to encounters between musical, craft, culinary and vegetable practices, and participatory projects; then a bike tour along the Burgundy Canal: 200 km in six stages during which each evening will focus on and with the inhabitants and associations which are the life of the villages and cities bordering the canal. Natural spaces become green theatres, open-air auditoriums for concerts, performances, sound installations, entertainment, discussions, walks…

Sonic Bloom aims to be an event in transition: designed in a short circuit, highlighting the artisanal and local dimension, with a desire for technical lightness to limit its carbon footprint as much as possible. Sonic Bloom events are free and open to all audiences, ages 4 to 444.

At the origin of this unprecedented tour along the Burgundy Canal – 200 km in six stages – was a proposal from Ensemble 0 to organize a zero carbon tour around their Jojoni project. The objective was to introduce their music to the widest possible audience while limiting the carbon footprint. Because of the zero carbon goal the event had to be capable of traveling by bicycle.

Jojoni (“little by little” in Japanese) is a rare, experimental work…

Jojoni is Joël Mérah / Stéphane Garin / Sylvain Chauveau (ensemble 0), play a suite of original acoustic pieces for metal percussion and guitars, composed and performed by the trio. It is the follow-up to Soñando, their first album as a trio, which allowed them to tour in six different countries (France, Japan, Taiwan, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany) on two continents (Europe, Asia). The new album Jojoni is called Made To Measure (Crammed Discs).

« Impeccably tasteful stuff, treading that thin line between arty minimalism and head-nodding accessibility » – Norman Records (UK)

At the base is muscial percussion made of sound objects and two guitars.  The modern troubadors ride their bikes and invite the spectators to follow join in a most essential, curious, unexpected musical gesture…

« Autour d’un trio de musiciens de haute notoriété, des virtuoses qui nous font vraiment le plaisir et l’honneur de venir jouer pour nous et de jouer le jeu d’aller de s’arrêter comme ça tous les 30 kilomètres, pendant une semaine. » — says Nicolas Thirion president of the association Ici l’Onde

The idea is to take the time to share beautiful summer evenings together with a curio cabinet of sounds!
