American MEMORIAL DAY FRANCE 2023
, 1868 to honor those soldiers who lost their lives to the Civil War. In 1971, the name was changed to honor all US soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom! Let’s remember those who have sacrificed their lives, join in one of the many commemorations of this American holiday throughout France.

- LAFAYETTE ESCADRILLE MEMORIAL @ 10h00 « La Fayette Escadrille » Memorial Arch was built between 1926 and 1928, and was inaugurated on July 4, 1928, U.S. Independence Day, in the notable presence of Ferdinand Foch and Paul Doumer. Inscribed in French on top in capital letters « In memory to the Heroes of Escadrille La Fayette dead for the Defense of Right and Liberty ». It is located at 5 Bd Raymond Poincaré, 92430 Marnes-la-Coquette, just west of Paris.

- ARC DE TRIOMPHE @ 17h30 for the daily revival of the eternal flame (If you have never been to this solemn ceremony that is performed each and every day it is worth stopping by. Each day a different group participates, for example military organizations, school groups, foreign embassies. It take just a few minutes and can be quite moving. There is music, sometimes a simple drum and bugle, sometimes a full military band. A wreath is laid. Some groups not only rekindle the eternal flame, but take it on a torch to their own commemorations. Here’s the link to the annual calendar)
