Ready to vote in US elections?

Americans abroad can vote in US elections no matter where they live. US citizens residing abroad need to register and request a ballot every election year, because being an overseas absentee voter is different from a regular absentee voter. We get special protections guaranteed by federal law!

Registration deadlines for many states are approaching, so hurry! Fill out the form at VoteFromAbroad.org and ask to receive your ballot by email so there’s no delay.

The page for your voting state lists every deadline—registration, ballot request, ballot return—as well as the method(s) you can use to return your ballot. If your state requires you to use postal mail, you should act now. Here’s a quick and easy way to mail it that avoids the confusion caused by some La Poste agents operating under the old information that no envelopes are being sent to the US. (Not true.)

If you need to mail back your ballot, we urge you to simultaneously send a backup ballot (a federal protection in case of mail delays). Only
one will be counted if both your official ballot and backup ballot arrive on time.

Your state’s page also lists the contact information for your local election official so you can ask them to confirm your ballot was received,
accepted, and counted—a vital step in voting from abroad.
