James Jones was one of the early visitors of the Mistral Bookshop . It also seems that it was at a dinner party for James Jones who had recently moved to Paris that Silvia Beach announced to G. Whitman that she would concede the Shakespeare & Co. name to him.
James Jones was an American novelist known for his explorations of World War II and its aftermath. His experience of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor led to his first published novel, From Here to Eternity. Jones was awarded the National Book Award in 1952 for From Here to Eternity, which was then adapted for the big screen in 1953.
